New Command scenario: Rebel Yell

NATO vs. Slovakian Rebels
Date/Time:
1st June, 2015 / 06:00:00 Zulu
Location: Central Europe

Playable Sides: NATO

This scenario assumes that Slovakian army has rebelled. Although most of the rebels have already surrendered, one of the Slovakian airbases is still being held captive by rebels along with all available equipment and civilian personnel. Rebels are threatening to start executing civilian personnel if their demands aren’t met starting at 1200 Zulu. Slovakian goverment call for help is answered by several NATO members, which agree to provide limited military support to suppress the rebellion.

Orders for Cmdr NATO Air Force

Situation

Rebellion of Slovakian army has almost been resolved. One of the airbases still remains under rebel control, along with the equipment. Slovakian government asked us to intervene. Your main objective is to recapture the airbase.

Enemy Forces

Information we received from Slovakian government indicates that the rebels are operating six modernized MIG-29s (Fulcrum-C), one battery of older 2K12 Kub SAM system (SA-6 Gainful) and one battery of more recent S-300 (SA-10 Grumble).

Friendly Forces

  • Six JAS-39C stationed at Caslav AB (note that Czech Gripens are not ground attack capable).
  • Six Mi-35M stationed at Namest Nad Oslavou AB and one C-295M at Caslav AB.
  • Two Tornado ECR stationed at Piacenza San Damiano AB.
  • Two Tornado ECR stationed at Schleswig AB.

Mission

Destroy opposing forces and recapture Sliac AB.

Execution

Use JAS-39C Gripens to maintain air-superiority in the area of operation. Neutralization of enemy SAM defences has to be performed with combination of Tornado ECRs and Mi-35Ms as needed. Transport paratroopers to LZ Alpha in vicinity of enemy airbase using C-295 (3min to airdrop). Maintain presence in the vicinity of enemy airbase (30 min) to recapture it.

SITUATION

Disagreements with Tunisia over the use of the Strait of Sicily continue.  In particular, Tunisia has made several claims about violations of its territorial waters by Italian fishing boats and other commercial vessels.  They have warned us that further violations may result in the use of force.

Our government believes that a diplomatic solution to this problem will be reached soon, but that in the meantime it is important to maintain a naval presence in the Strait.

ENEMY FORCES

In the event that hostilities break out, Tunisia has only limited naval and air capabilities, but these should still be taken seriously.  While the elderly missile boats and F-5E/F Tiger IIs Tunisia uses are obsolete by our standards, they do represent a significant amount of firepower.

FRIENDLY FORCES

The Grecale is the only vessel in the area available for this mission.

Available aircraft at Trapani are chopped to your command.

MISSION

Proceed to the Strait of Sicily.  Conduct patrols in the area marked on your tactical map and gather intelligence on Tunisian forces in the Strait until you receive further orders.

EXECUTION

Do not initiate hostilities with Tunisian forces.  Be careful not to violate Tunisian territorial waters.  If Tunisia initiates hostilities, you are free to defend yourselves and to take appropriate actions to protect civilians from harm.

New Command scenario: Andromeda at the Ready

During the 1980s, both Iran and Iraq attacked commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf in an attempt to deny each other trade.

This scenario assumes the British frigate Andromeda, on station in the Persian Gulf at various times in the 1980s, was called upon to protect a British merchant damaged by an Iranian mine and at risk of further attack by Iranian forces.

ATTN: Commanding Officer, Andromeda

SITUATION

The English-flagged merchant Dover Belle has been damaged by a naval mine, most likely Iranian in origin.  Although damaged, she is still capable of moving under her own power and is now en route to the United Arab Emirates, where she will effect repairs.  Signals intelligence, however, suggests the Iranians believe she is carrying contraband and are intending to seize her or sink her.

ENEMY FORCES

The Iranians have a number of small vessels in the Persian Gulf and a small number of aircraft that they can dedicate to tracking and possibly attacking the Dover Belle.

FRIENDLY FORCES

Your forces consist of the Andromeda and the Olmeda.  Ledbury is available to assist you if other mines are discovered that represent a threat to your forces or to merchant shipping.  No other British forces are currently available to assist you.

MISSION

Protect the Dover Belle from attack while she makes her way to the United Arab Emirates.

Ledbury should patrol the Dover Belle’s intended path to the United Arab Emirates and attempt to locate and eliminate any mines that may threaten her or other shipping.

EXECUTION

At your discretion.  You are free to fire on Iranian forces if they appear to directly threaten the Dover Belle or your vessels.

Please be reminded that your Sea Wolf missiles have limited range and your only long range surface combat weapons are your Exocet missiles.  Sailing in very close formation with the Dover Belle will be the only way to provide her with any kind of air cover.

Four of a kind: Command v1.04 has been released!

Acclaimed by both modern warfare specialists and wargaming enthusiasts, Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations has swept the awards since its release last September, including the Usenet’s Wargame of The Year 2013 and the gold medal for Grogheads Game of the Year 2013 readers’ award.

Developers Warfare Sims (www.warfaresims.com) have not rested on their laurels though as they have been working on several updates since the release of the game. These patches, including the newest 1.04 released today, have included a whole host of new features, improvements on the simulation engine and user interface, bug fixes and a veritable avalanche of database updates and additions.

Here is the list of some of the major improvements implemented in this new version.

  • Configurable strike auto-planner. Your planes plot intelligent paths for their missions (complete with multiple off-axis ingress and egress lines, split-to-attack and form-up waypoints, suitable altitudes for each leg etc.). As always you can tweak the strike plan to perfection.
  • An extensive array of UI enhancements such as wireframe-only map view, selection-only range symbols, new hotkeys, menu list for quick-jump slots, additional information on the database viewer, configurable ghosted-unit visibility, configurable plotted course visibility, one-click jump to unit mission, single-icon enemy groups and more.
  • AI and mission editor additions such as configurable sprint-and-drift, optional prosecution areas for patrols (goodbye fainted drawn-out patrol assets and edge-of-envelope SAM shots, hello true SAM-ambushes!), new doctrine options and more.
  • Improved simulation mechanics such as multiple cloud conditions, refined offboard-sonar modelling, ABM/ASAT guidance refinements, realism improvements for anti-missile engagements, longer-range AI torpedo shots and more.
  • Significant performance & stability improvements.
  • A mile-long list of database additions including future Virginia SSGN versions, Tomahawk MMT, M982 Excalibur guided 155mm artillery, KC-46 tanker, MC-130 with the BLU-82 “Daisy Cutter” & GBU-43 MOAB mega-bombs, Chinese “High New” C4-ISR series, the entire Ukraine naval OOB, Oscar-III SSGN, JLENS, tons of Vietnam-era units, hypothetical systems like the F-19A, A/F-117X, Boeing 747 ALCM carrier and generic CATOBAR mini-carrier, and much more.
